Do you and your friends
have the bug to visit Alaska next year to sightsee, flightsee,
fish and or relax?
Margy and I fished four days and spent several days Bed
& Breakfast just relaxing. Fishing was fantastic; catching
pike, char, grayling and silver salmon. We caught so many
fish, both Margy and I quit counting. Food was fantastic,
happy hours to remember.
Hosts Curly and Betty Warren have a lodge staff and fishing
guides that are outstanding.

We flew out to a different
place to fish every day and there was very little walking
to get to the fishing spots. The landscape was enchanting
with some wildlife to view.
The lodge accommodations are fabulous with individual room
heaters, showers and bathroom, fantastic food and happy
hours, super hosts, fishing guides and pilots to take you
to your fishing spot. Fishing is fantastic.
If you are interested in rainbows, let Curly Warren know
when you book and he can arrange for rainbow fishing also.
The Lodge recommends four fisherman per reservation to ensure
high quality accommodations and fishing.
The lodge
has a sauna that is a big hit after a long day fishing
or just wanting to unwind. If you like to visit and fish
in Alaska, Margy and I highly recommend the Stoney River
Lodge. The lodge can also arrange various sightseeing/flightseeing
tours while you are in Alaska or at the lodge. Below are
a few fish pictures.

SALMON, SALMON, SALMON
Kevin Smithhart, from Lufkin, Texas and Kurt Turner out
of Burleson, Texas are back for another fishing adventure
with Stoney River Lodge. They arrived at the lodge on
August 9th and started their fishing expeditions on the
following day. Having been here in the past they were
excited to get started, and the fishing surpassed anything
they had experienced on their last trip. On several days
of their trip they were flown into a hot remote Rainbow
Trout fishing location and keep the fly lines loaded up.
While going to and from and
being at the fishing areas many Moose, Black Bear, Grizzly
Bear and Water fowl were sited, "some" closer
than others. Kevin and Kurt expressed the excitement of
fighting many species of fish each day most days seeing
multiples of different species on the ends of their lines.
Bright spawning Arctic
Char, beautiful "Rainbow Trout", early run of
Coho salmon as well as the King and Chum, smolt feeding
Sheefish, hungry Arctic Char and the impressive 40"+
Great Northern Pike were caught in great numbers on different
days at the remote fishing areas.
In the evenings many nights
Kurt and Kevin elected to relaxed in the sauna that extends
out over the lake. Many a fine meal, appetizers, favorite
drinks and lots of fishing photo's and stories were shared
with us here at Stoney River Lodge. Looking forward to their
next trip with us.
July 29-Aug 3
Fun
We were fortunate to have Father John Corapi with his God
daughter Tamar and husband Matt Sprinkle with us on their
7 days of fishing adventures, 7/29 - 8/3.
After arriving at Stoney River Lodge on the 28th, they got
settled into their cabins, eating a fine meal and awaited
the excitement of fly-out trips to remote areas for some
exciting fishing adventures. Many bears, both Black and
Grizzly, Moose, and plenty of water fowl were seen from
the planes on each trip to and from the fishing locations.
A Bald Eagle,
nesting with two half grown chicks were photographed from
one of the remote fishing areas.
They spent their days catching
and releasing a variety of Salmon species (Kings, Chum,
Pink & Coho), Arctic Char, Arctic Grayling, Northern
Pike
( 36"+), Sheefish and Rainbow Trout. By the end of
each day, after hot showers, we all shared appetizers
and a great hot evening meal while listening to exciting
daily fishing adventures and viewing photo's they had
taken. Getting to sleep didn't seem to be a problem for
any, with the help of the singing Loon's close by in the
lake.
We thoroughly enjoyed each and every day we shared
and hope to see Father John, Tamar, and Matt back
soon on yet another fishing adventure.

of sun shine, a few rain showers, they even experienced
a hail storm while fishing for King Salmon.

Having
a BLAST!
We were fortunate to have the "Parks family",
Dad, Steve Parks and his three wonderful daughters with
us on June 30th.
They spent the day with our river guide "WL"
fishing for Northern Pike and were very successful, pulling
in many in the 36" to 42" range fish. Around
5:00 p.m. they joined us here at the lodge as our B&B
guests enjoying hot showers and sauna, refreshments with
appetizers before dinner, and a peaceful sleep in our
comfortable cabins.
After breakfast the next morning they were off to their
next adventure with their host Mark Madura of Madura Air.
Thank you, Parks family for sharing with us your time
and adventures we enjoyed your stay with us.

Colesanti, Franklin Lakes, NJ, took this
"monster" 42" Northern Pike along with
King Salmon, Arctic Char and Grayling.
|
We have had some wet weather, waiting on fog in the morning,
but not stopping these gentlemen from getting out to the
fishing spots every day thus far and getting in some fine
fishing. They view Moose and black bears from the planes
that took them into their daily fishing spots. They have
tackled some fine Sheefish, King Salmon, Arctic Char,
Grayling and Northern Pike.
We want to share some of their photo's below thus far
into their trip.

15+ pound Sheefish,
Betty caught on a 7 weight fly rod
using a blue & white 3" wet fly, June 18th,
2007.
|
Fishing Fever!
Great fishing since June 10th. We've had a super bite on
big pike on the fly rods. June 17th & 18th Betty and
Curly released approximately 40, 6 to 20 pound Sheefish
with most of them caught on flies using 6 & 7 weight
fly rods.
On the 15th, Betty traumatized a lot of Grayling plus 17
Arctic Char in the clear low water. We
are looking for the 1st King Salmon to arrive any day in
the waters around the area. This is the time of year
to get into a lot of fish before the salmon arrive.
